Built for Learning

An ideal learning environment is full of bright colors and organization. Students enjoy seeing the excitement and encouragement throughout the room when they walk through the doors every morning. My students will sit in groups of four at a table with multicolored tubs of glue, pencils, scissors, markers, and crayons. This set up helps the students to interact with each other in small groups. The tables will be labeled with a name tag for each student that is assigned. Since I will teach kindergarten my class will be from the beginning of school to the end give or take recess, physical education, music, etc. I will take extra precautions to maintain a healthy classroom by providing germ-x bottles around the room. I will keep my class organized and safe for my students on a daily basis. I will teach the students life lessons. My students will constantly be engaged with fun and encouraging activities. They will come to school ready to learn, because of the fun and upbeat learning environment that I have created for them.

My learning activity is for the kindergarten class that I intern in. It has to do with learning social skills. It is about following directions when given a list of things to do. This activity is applied in life skills all through out life not just in this grade. 

Directions: I will first play a song from youtube about my lesson. The song requires dancing and singing for the kids to enjoy. Click here to hear the song. I will explain to the students the importance of listening and following directions. Then I will read a specific list of directions to my students (ex: raise your hand if you like vanilla ice cream the most). This activity will conclude with a fun surprise for the best color row on the carpet following the directions given.

Find the Treasure in Teaching

I wanted to work with a group of people for my competition, so I chose to do a group project. I would not make any changes to my project. The most difficult and best part of our competition was the class discussion, because every one in our chapter was able to have a voice in it but it was hard to come up with one conclusion. I have gained a better development of public speaking. I am looking forward to state with my team in January.

                   My First Day as an Intern
I am placed at W.A. Porter Elementary School with Mrs. Clifford in a Kindergarten classroom. My mentor teacher has been teaching for 14 years in which I was in her second class 11 years ago. Before I got to my field site I had to create my introduction poster with facts about myself to help the children and teacher to get to know me better (which was also the only thing I took with me). I wore a nice dress with my EAT button up and my name badge and I.D. My introduction was really exciting, because it was the first time the floor was all mine. I had thirty minutes of undivided time to interact with my new students and answer any questions they had. When I first arrived at the school all of the Kindergarten classes were out at recess, so I went outside and got to meet all of the Kindergarten teachers. When I was in the classroom I observed the children learn about magnets and then went to exploration time where they played games and ate snacks. I loved the time I got to spend in my class and am super excited about the next time I get to go back. I am most looking forward to getting to know my students and getting to spend more time with them.

This book is a great and fun book to read out loud. This book is appropriate for K-2 grades for prime affect. Some key words in this book are School: What is the first thing that pops into your head when you think of school? The Library: What is your favorite book to read from the Library? Lunchroom: What is for lunch today in the Lunchroom? Playground: What games do you play on the Playground? For this lesson I would ask the students to draw a picture labeling it with a sentence or two with what their favorite part of the school day is and soon after allow the students to share what they wrote. 

                             What Do Teacher's Make?

A teacher makes a difference. Every day a teacher goes to work they sacrifice a huge part of their day developing the minds of children. Not only do they teach core values starting from the first year of school, they enable the children to use the skills they have learned in class and how to apply it in the real world. Teacher's are responsible for making every child feel cared and nurtured, but also worthy and intelligent to them. They spend time and money making kids enjoy waking up at the crack of dawn to learn something new each and every day. Most importantly though, they make kids aspire to be better. Yes, the average pay of a teacher is very low ($48,000 per year), but they make much more than just money.
